A Quiet Journey Through the Snow

This rectangular pot has softly rounded corners and gently irregular walls, giving the form a quieter and more natural character than a sharply geometric vessel. Four low feet support the body, while the restrained height and broad planting space create a stable proportion suitable for a compact landscape composition.

A continuous winter landscape extends around the entire exterior. Snow-covered mountains, bare trees, wooded slopes, and open water pass gradually from one side to the next, allowing the scene to be read as a single panoramic journey rather than a collection of separate images.

On one side, a small red-brown pavilion stands among snow-laden trees. Nearby, two tiny figures travel through the landscape, introducing a human scale to the surrounding mountains. As the pot is turned, the architecture and figures give way to quieter stretches of water, distant peaks, and isolated trees.

Black and grey ink-like lines define the branches, rocks, and mountain contours, while raised areas of white suggest accumulated snow. The restrained ivory, grey, black, and brown palette gives the decoration a calm winter atmosphere, with the small pavilion providing a carefully placed point of warmth.

The non-circular body has been shaped through hand trimming, and the entire landscape has been painted by hand. Variations in the mountain contours, snow textures, and fine brush lines form part of the individual character of the piece and would be difficult to reproduce exactly.

Patterned brown feet and a narrow decorative line around the rim quietly frame the landscape without interrupting it. The result is a functional bonsai vessel that rewards slow viewing, revealing a different part of its snow-covered world from every angle.
