The Story of This Piece

A Repeating Pattern of Good Fortune

This shallow round pot has a broad opening, gently flared sides, and a low, balanced profile. Three decorative feet lift the vessel slightly above the surface, while the projecting rim gives the compact form a clear and graceful outline.

The exterior is covered with a repeating geometric arrangement of red lucky clover motifs and deep green leaves. Dark outlines divide the decoration into a continuous lattice, creating a steady visual rhythm that changes subtly as the pot is turned.

The repeated clover motif brings a cheerful sense of abundance and good fortune to the composition. Rather than being presented as isolated flowers, the forms connect across the entire body, creating the impression of an uninterrupted patterned textile wrapped around the ceramic surface.

A narrow decorative band continues around the inner edge of the rim, visually connecting the exterior pattern with the pale glazed interior. The gold-coloured rim introduces a warm accent, while the red and green decoration on the feet completes the design from top to base.

The pot has been hand thrown and painted entirely by hand in underglaze wucai. Small differences in the spacing, outlines, leaves, and flower forms preserve the movement of the painter’s brush, making the decorative arrangement difficult to reproduce exactly. Rather than forming a single central image, the repeating decoration wraps continuously around the vessel, bringing quiet order and decorative warmth to a restrained form.
